UPS Uses Snails for Ground Delivery

Once again UPS shows sheer incompetency. On 12/21/04 my brother placed an order for me for Christmas with Peets Coffee & Tea. On July 10, 2006 I just NOW got it. Using the tracking number I confirmed that it was sent on 12/21/2004.

On top of that I had to pick it up myself at your facility because the delivery driver wrote that I had moved. This was on July 5, 2006. I was home all freakin day recovering from eye surgery. NO ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO DELIVER and how the driver came to the conclusion that I had moved is beyond me.

I myself never use UPS and I tell those that send things to me to avoid UPS at all cost. This is an example of why I do that.

The tracking number on the package was 1Z 952 494 03 3732 4608. The control number on the post card sent to me saying that I had "moved" was 7823-P705-6246.

By the way, the coffee is pretty stale. I wonder why.

Right now I am mad at UPS for not delivering my 3 boxes from Avon. On
the website it claimed that they had tried twice at 6:00pm but no one
was home. That was impossible because yesterday all of us were home by
5:30pm.
This is the second time they've misplaced my boxes. I complained to
UPS and Avon this morning.

UPS sucks. A lot. So does FedEx. I love DHL, and I'm fond of the
USPS for package shipping...and that's about it!

How disappointing for both your brother AND you!!

UPS left a package for me (electronics) in my open garage-BEHIND the
back tire of my van. And, obviously we were home, since the garage
door was open. Thankfully, I didn't back out over the thing. Gotta
wonder if this is the kind of thing they're thinking "Brown" can do
for us?

I doubt that there would be much recourse from UPS, but Peet's might
offer to send you a new bag of coffee for free if they hear about
this. If I remember right, those sealed bags of whole bean coffee
should last 3-6 months (at least the Starbucks ones are supposed to).
However, I don't think you should have to wait that long in the first
place. If they did send it, hopefully they would use a different
transport company.

I dislike UPS as well. I ordered yarn for knitting a few months ago. I
was told it would arrive in a week, and the tracking system had shown
it was sent. However, a month later, I was still waiting (I had almost
forgotten I had ordered it in the first place). We emailed them, and
they revealed that our package was lost. We then emailed the yarn
company, and they sent me a new package. They did a whole lot more
good than UPS ever did. Last week though (about six months after it
was sent), another package arrived- the supposedly lost yarn. Needless
to say, I never did business with UPS again.

Good letter, valid complaint. About 1 in 10 on here are reasonable
complaints with reasonable expectations. Glad you got your coffee.
Your letter is how most should be, not over the top, not rude and not
demanding credit, even though you deserve it.
The one part I would have left out is saying that you avoid UPS and
encourage others to do so. By doing this you indicate you are not
really a customer of UPS so they might not be inclined to take care of
you because you do not pose a threat of them losing future business,
and any credit they give you would not provide a future return for
them.

It looks like it was delivered 12/29/04. Was the address the coffee
place had on file correct? If the address had a number transposed it
couldhave been deilivered to the wrong house and then returned to UPS.

how bad. Glad you finally got your coffee Gerald.

Using Peets Coffee & Tea web site I contacted them to let them know of
the problem. I didn't ask them for anything. I just wanted them to
be aware of the problem with UPS. Those great people are sending me a
new package. Here's their reply back to me.

Dear Gerald,

Wow! I can't begin to imagine where that package has been all this
time. I tracked it on the UPS website where it says the package
arrived in San Antonio on 12/29/04, so apparently it has been sitting
in a
warehouse for over a year and a half. The coffee is probably not even
drinkable by now!

I'm so sorry about this. I have asked UPS to investigate this, which
may take awhile. We will attempt to get credit from them, but that's
not your worry. We'd like to send you some nice fresh coffee to make
up for this. What is your current address? The original package was
addressed to you at: XXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, XXX. XXXX, SAN ANTONIO,
TX
XXXXX. Is that address still valid? The UPS website has a note that
the recipient has moved." Do you have a new address?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Ginny Phillips

I can't believe you didn't contact the sender to see where the package
was. If it was me I would have been looking for why it wasn't there
within the specified time frame.

Absolutely, undeniably, unbelievable! A full year and 7 months later
your package arrives. I would say that the coffee was quite stale.

I use UPS on a daily basis (work) and am constantly calling them to
tell them not to charge me priority overnight fees when they deliver
my packages after 10:30 a.m. They guarantee it by 10:30 so if it
arrives at 10:45 I make them give me the lower rate.

Ummm, I'm thinking UPS should pay you for the honor of holding on to
your stuff for more than a year! :o)

2004?! Well, no wonder it was stale. It's a shame you didn't get it
since it was for Christmas.

Holy crap! I didn't believe it until I plugged in the tracking number
myself. That is nuts!!

The whole "receiver moved" thing is total bull. UPS will attempt
delivery, if they can't deliver to you it gets sent back to the
shipper. What probably REALLY happened is that they misplaced it and
found it over a year later and was like "oh crap".

Gerald, is that you? Is eye surgery the reason you haven't been on
PFB? If you are a different Gerald, just ignore me.

I do have one question. Was the order actually placed on 12/21/04, or
did you mean to say 05? It's so hard to believe a package was in limbo
somewhere for all that time. Maybe the coffee company will send you a
replacement.
