On Sat Sept 27/08 my husband and I flew out of SeaTac airport to phoenix AZ. We checked ou luggage @ the corner through the sky cab. He was very polite and efficient. He did not weigh our luggage and charged us $17 for our first bag each for a total of $34. However on our return flight from phoenix bag to Seatac on 10/4/08 there wasn't a sky cab to go through so we did our check in inside the airport. The attendant helping us was very rude and not helpful. I was sick from food poisoning and felt like I was going to pass out. I said this out loud @ the counter and the attendent didn't even ask me if she could be of help. She didn't offer me a chair or anything, but just ordered us to place our bags for weighing. I expressed to her that why was this being done since it wasn't on our flight out and she stated " I don't know what they did I can't speak to that but we our doing it now". Our bags weighed > than 70lbs each so we were charged $115 dollars for each bag a total of $230. If this is the new policy then why are we not better prepared as consumers? What would we have done if we didn't have a credit card or funds to handle this? If we had known this we would have bought other bags to spread out the load to save money or better yet shipped our belongings. In this time of a tough economy and stiff competition especially between airlines I would hope to receive better treatment than this. I will not fly us air again if this is the way they want to do business.

I would like Us Air to refund $200 to me that I was charged extra for our luggage

First of all they are called Sky Caps not Sky Cabs. Also their
baggage policies are clearly spelled out in more than one place, on
the website, on signage at the airport, etc. Lastly, what does having
to be sick (while however unfortunate that is) have to do with your
complaint?

If you did not have a credit card or funds then they would not have
transported the bags. Plain and simple.

As for why you were not prepared, you would have to look yourself in
the mirror and ask yourself that. No one else knows why your ignored
reading and learning the rules.

Why should US Airways refund you a fee that was correctly charged to
transport your excess luggage?

I don't think you will, or really deserve, a refund. We flew
recently, and were very aware of the weight restriction on luggage.
There have been a lot of news stories about it, how the airlines are
charging more and more. So, I agree with the other posters, you
should be glad you didn't get charged both ways.

So basically you lucked out because the Sky Cap did not weigh your
luggage on your outgoing flight. If he had, you would have paid
excess baggage fees both ways. There is absolutely no reason US Air
should refund you the money. They are really the ones that lost out.

It is right here on US Airways' website.

As to why you weren't prepared, and still don't know the charge is
correct, I don't know. You are not entitled to any refund.

That is a heavy bag. I just handled a bunch of 80lb bags of concrete,
and I'd hate to think of dragging two through an airport.

flight - the luggage wouldn't necessarily weigh the same, so she can
only be concerned with the weight on *this* flight. However, if your
bags really did weigh the same on each flight, it seems like you got
away with a freebie. They could and should have charged you for
excess weight. My bags aren't big enough to ask for a credit twice
that I didn't deserve once!
Good luck to you.
