PLEASE READ ASAP- EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED

My friend and I booked a flight from Philadelphia, PA to Dubrovnik, Croatia (traveling through Manchester England) back in December 2005 for travel from August 3- August 18, 2006. We used frequent flier miles to book our flights, so clearly we are dedicated customers. Today, July 26 (one week before we are supposed to depart), US Air tells us that we will have to spend the night in Manchester, England on the way home because they can not get us out of there on the 18th. US Air did NOT OFFER ANYTHING to us for the inconvenience of having to stay another night or the cost of paying for another night in a hotel. I am also missing a wedding shower for my friend because of this extra day, and am ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS that US Air couldn't care less about this extra cost and inconvenience. I work at a university where we send thousands of students to study abroad a year, and we often recommend US Air as a carrier. I will no longer do so. I demand that US Air either bump us up to first class on the way home AND pay for our night in Manchester, England or make some other fair concession.

Please get back to me ASAP.

They let you know ONE WEEK ahead of time? You should have played the
Lotto that night! Be lucky they didn't let you know when you went to
CHECK IN!

I mean, they gave you a week's notice of this bump in your plans, so
you have time to make hotel reservations. What would have happened if
they didn't notify you? You'd be stuck finding something at the last
minute. You should be thanking them for the advance notice that gives
you time to make sure you have overnight accommodations.

Besides, 15 days abroad, what's one more night in a hotel or hostel
(they're cheap and great!)? As a portion of your traveling dollars,
it's not so bad.

Also... a wedding shower? Big deal -- you're not missing a wedding.
And in many families/communities, there are multiple wedding showers,
so maybe you can go to another shower hosted by someone else.

Enjoy Dubrovnik. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Be prepared to eat a lot of delicious soup. Just don't ask what's in
it.

Since you're obviously not flying USAirways from Dubrovnik to
Manchester, what do you want them to do?

The only flights that US has from Manchester to Philadelphia leave
Manchester at either 8:35am or 11:20am.

The first flight from Dubrovnik arrives in Mnchester at 11:00am, and
that is a Croatia Airlines flight.

The minimum connection time in Manchester for an International to
International flight is 60 minutes.

Schedule changes happen. As someone else said, that is the rish you
run when obtaining your tickets so far in advance.

And trust me, on a frequent flyer "free" ticket, you are not entitled
to be compensated or upgraded due to a schedule change.

Yes, I am a travel agent.

um if you used your frequent flyer miles i supposed you didn't pay for
anything. i believe that when you get things for free with an airline
is whatever they have available. they are not going to take away from
their paying customers. now they could offer to pay for your hotel,
but that's it. i believe some airlines do this, but i am not sure if
you have to have purchased the ticket. now about the first class
request i think you need to get off your high horse. and about missing
your shower, i mean it could have happened even if you paid for the
ticket. delays happen. so yeah, relax, your sense of entitlement is
unbleievable.

I used free frequent flyer miles to book a cut rate (free) flight to
impress my upper crust friends and they put us with the peons. I
DEMAND.....wah wah wah wah My name ends in ESQUIRE for God's sake!!!
blah blah blah..hotel in England yadda yadda yadda...gimme first class
treatment because I was silly enough not to plan better.....missed my
opportunity to shine at my friends wedding shower......I send
thousands of peon exchange students (hence the frequent flier gimme
freebie bonanza).... and I WILL NOT BE IGNORED...i'll BOIL YOUR RABBIT
if you don't BUMP US UP TO FIRST CLASS .....no way are you gonna get
away with THIS you're gonna compensate us for this... remember my
name.... tatto it to your hand because i'm gonna be FAMOUS someday.

Are you related in any way to Mo Nique???? or ZsaZsaGabor?? Just
wondering...

I humbly suggest the next time you book a flight to Croatia. Forget
the Frequent Flyer Miles and Book Yourself and friends a First Class
Chartered Private Jet and hire a well heeled and trained pilot and
crew with plenty of air experience. Us peons collectivly would enjoy
our flying experience without so much drama!!

Here's where reading the little letters on your ticket come in handy.
For the price you paid, they are only on the hook to provide you with
that said transportation. They do not incur any penalty for being
late, schedule changes, etc. Now, I am sure they are under limits on
how long they can go before having to offer you a refund, but I don't
think it's one night.

As someone else said, the flight schedules changed.
It happens occassionally, and it sucks. I think to be fair, they
should offer you a refund and let you choose a different carrier that
can make it to your timing. However, you paid in FF miles, so this is
a cheap flight to begin with. And after paying with FF miles, are you
asking for a First Class upgrade? That's a nice demand of thousands of
dollars EACH on international travel.

Also, I am sure you are extremely frustrated, but I agree with the
others that say you would have a better chance by still being nice at
this point. They usually don't, but I would think they could offer to
put you up somewhere for the night. Especially since they are
changing it so close to your departure. Can they have you fly back a
little early instead, so you don't have to spend a night on your own
dime in England? Can they route you through a different city? Maybe
you would have more flight/travel time, but you would still get home
earlier. I would start with those questions before asking for $1000's
of upgrades when you paid a minimal service fee (at most) to use your
miles.
Yes, I know miles are precious too and have "value".

I think what they owe you is the quickest flight back they can get
you.

LMAO-Yeah right. People rarely respond well to demands especially
outrageous ones like this. Perhaps if you were kind someone would be
more inclined to help you.

When you book a flight that far in advance, you have to accept the
risk that things -- such as flight schedules -- can change. When you
schedule things so closely, you have to accept the risk that, if there
is a delay of any sort, your plans may be disrupted.

Fair compensation? Being bumped to first class is your idea of FAIR?
For what???

Oh and the threat of pulling 'university' business, because you have
that power? Good god!

The sheer entitlement that's present throughout this entire letter is
sickening.

I RARELY stick up for the airlines...since I know how they
operate...but in this case, because of your attitude, I would be SICK
if you got anything out of them.

Although, I know that won't happen.

This one will be tossed in the circular file, where it belongs.
