Verizon FIOS cares nothing for its employees or their families

Why doesn't Verizon care about its employees? Since my husband started working at the FIOS division three years ago, it has been one long string of firings, denied time off, and ridiculous policies. Point in case: the employee "time off" policy. It is ludicrous. The way your system handles its time off is absolutely unacceptable. Every decent company on the planet has "sick days" that employees can earn with each paycheck, and use as the situation requires. Not Verizon. Instead, they have instituted a "short day" policy giving five days for the entire year. While this seems like a great idea, my husband's division has just been informed that they can no longer schedule their own "short days." Now "short days" can be given or denied according to the central office's determination, based on how many staff they have at the time. The reason behind this? Verizon has fired so many people it is impossible to keep the phones answered! Calls waiting in queue is up in the hundreds and rising steadily.
Why has Verizon fired so many people? Because they couldn't get time off approved! Do you see how this is a vicious cycle? Does anyone at Verizon Central care?
Time off for an emergency, of course, is accessible through FMLA. In theory. Well, we tried that last year and were denied. Again... and again... and again. I am on Disability. The United States government says that I am completely Disabled. But not Verizon! Taking time off to take me to emergency appointments isn't a legitimate reason for him to take time off. No? How about having a roof fall on your head, AT WORK. No, that doesn't count either. What, pray tell, is a legitimate reason for my husband to take time off? Perhaps if he were killed in a horrendous, fiery accident, Verizon MIGHT consider giving him some time off.
Hello, Verizon. Give your people sick days. Stop firing people for ridiculous reasons. Approve legitimate FMLA absences, and stop denying "short days" just because you're unable to keep staffed. Verizon is becoming known as the WORST employer in the United States, and there are very good reasons for that!

Well... he could, I don't know... QUIT.
Of course, it's employers like this that make Europe look better and better.

I saw "Norma Rae", but the movie would have been a total drag if her husband played the lead role.

I'm wondering what exactly you hoped to gain from writing this letter - best case scenario they ignore it and continue their practices, but worst case they connect this letter to your husband and that will make him look terrible! If your husband is honestly dissatisfied with his job, he can surely find something else with his skill set. He certainly doesn't need you to write angry letters to his employer about it. Either way, this letter reflects badly on both you and him.

While I sympathize with the frustration of working for a company that doesn't appear to show concern for their employees, this isn't the forum to tell about that.
This is a site for feedback about consumer issues, not a blog to vent about work injustices.
Additionally, admirable that it is that you care for your husband's livlihood, any complaints should come from him. You may actually be putting him at risk for disciplinary action from his employer for posting this. If they are as vindictive as you portray them to be, do you think it will bode well that you are publicly complaining about them here?
If you truly believe that Verizon is acting unfairly or unethically, you need to hire an attorney and not post negative diatribes here. It will only hurt your case against them by airing all this here.
