Just Plain Unhappy with Verizon DSL

I HAVE BEEN A VERIZON CUSTOMER FOR MANY YEARS. A FEW YEARS AGO, I SIGNED UP FOR VERIZON DSL. PREVIOUSLY, I HAD A COMPANY THAT PUT A 40 FT. ANTENNA ON MY ROOF AND WAS VERY GLAD TO HEAR THAT VERIZON DSL WAS AVAILABLE IN MY AREA.
THE FIRST YEAR I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE THE DSL WAS NOT AS RELIABLE AS I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE. I MADE MANY PHONE CALLS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SPORADIC DISCONNECTS OR NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCESS THE INTERNET. ALL I WOULD HEAR IS THAT WAS A STRONG SIGNAL, IT APPEARED I WAS CONNECTED. I HAD BEEN PUT THROUGH SO MUCH TRYING TO COMPLY WITH PEOPLE ON THE OTHER END OF THE PHONE. DISCONNECT THIS, PLUG IN THIS, UNPLUG THAT, TURN ON, TURN OFF, CHANGE PHONE LINES, RESET ROUTER, GET A NEW ROUTER AND THE REALLY GOOD ONE WAS TO RUN A NEW LINE FOR THE DSL ONLY. I AM SO TIRED OF CALLING AND GOING THROUGH ALL THE THINGS THEY PUT ME THROUGH. ITS MY COMPUTER. I HEARD THIS MANY TIMES.
LET ME TELL YOU AS CLEARLY AS I CAN WHAT’S WRONG “VERIZON” THAT’S WHAT’S WRONG. I CAN ACCESS THE INTERNET AT 6:am UNTIL ABOUT 9ish. IF ITS AFTER 12 NOON, FORGET IT. IF I TRY IN THE EVENING, FORGET IT. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, ITS FINE. NOW I DON’T WANT TO MISLEAD YOU. FINE IS NOT THE BEST WORD. ACCEPTABLE IS NOT THE BEST WORD. I GET KNOCKED OFF LINE. SOMETIMES THE PAGES LOAD SO FAST AND OTHER TIMES ITS TERRIBLE. I TOOK MY COMPUTER TO MY DAUGHTER’S HOME AND WE TESTED IT THERE. IT WORKED GREAT AND IT MADE ME ANGRY TO THINK HER CONNECTION WAS FINE AND MINE WAS NOT. IT PROVED THAT MY COMPUTER WAS RUNNING GREAT.
I REMEMBER ASKING FOR SOME TYPE OF CREDIT FOR ALL THE TIMES THAT I WAS NOT ABLE TO USE THE INTERNET AND GOT ZERO…. I ALSO TRIED THE UPGRADE FOR THE 30 DAY FREE TRIAL. NOPE, DIDN’T CHANGE A THING. AFTER 2 WEEKS, I CANCELLED THE UPGRADE. I HAVE STOPPED CALLING BECAUSE IT DOES NOT DO ANY GOOD, I CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE PERSON AND MY EARS GET REALLY TIRED AFTER HOUR OR 2 OF TRYING EVERYTHING. I AM A SEASONED SENIOR WHO TRIES TO USE THE INTERNET FOR KNOWLEDGE, GAMES AND EMAILS. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED THAT I AM NOT ABLE TO DO THIS WHEN I WANT TO AND ALSO THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR SERVICE I DON’T ALWAYS GET.
I AM WELL AWARE THAT THE WIRES UP AT THE HIWAY ARE OLD BUT I FEEL THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE TO CHANGE THINGS SO I CAN HAVE BETTER INTERNET SERVICE. I DON’T THINK I AM ASKING FOR A LOT. JUST SOME SERVICE FROM VERIZON. OH, YES, I HAVE HAD REPAIR TECHS HERE AND ALL OF MY WIRE CONNECTIONS ARE FINE. AGAIN, I KNOW ITS NOT MY COMPUTER. I WOULD HAVE SENT A LETTER TO VERIZON ON THE WEB BUT I CANNOT ACCESS THE INTERNET. ITS 1:15 PM. MY DSL LIGHT IS BLINKING AGAIN, SO I WILL WATCH IT BLINK UNTIL LATER TODAY. ARE THERE JUST TOO MANY PEOPLE ON THE LINE????? I CANNOT AFFORD TO SWITCH TO A DIFFERENT DSL COMPANY. THE INSTALLATION, ANTENNA, ETC. IS SOMETHING I JUST CANNOT AFFORD.
PLEASE DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING TO MADE MY DSL ACCESS BETTER AND WHILE YOUR AT IT, A LITTLE CREDIT WOULD BE NICE.

quite the opposite of yours with VZ DSL, HOWEVER,
my brother has horrible service. He also has a terrible time in the morning, and beleives it is related to the load in his area. I think DSL technology is susceptible to coming to a halt if too many users are on one "branch" of the connection with the office. This is built-in obsolescence, IMO, and will cause people to give up and pay for faster service in the future.
In addition, when it rains his service suffers frequent disconnects. I feel for you, because I think this will be hard to get fixed. Good luck though.

I have had Verizon DSL for over 3 years now virtually trouble free. The only times I have had trouble connecting I shut off my modem, wait a couple of minutes, then switch back on again and everything is fine. As for the speed, there are many factors involved including the distance you are from the local switching station, how many of your neighbors have it, etc. Is your modem password protected? If not, your neighbors could be mooching an internet connection off of you and slowing it down. Do you leave your modem on all the time? If so, that could become a problem as well. If you do, the connection can sometimes freeze or move really slowly. Again, just turn off your modem for a couple of minutes to let it reset.
