Verizon Snubs Long Time, Loyal Customers

Posted Wed January 18, 2012 12:00 pm, by Dana G. written to Verizon Local Telephone (and FIOS)

We are long-time customers of Verizon. I have had a Verizon cell phone since 2003, and I have been a Fios customer for TV, Internet and Phone since 2006 when I first moved out on my own. I am disappointed that Verizon advertises the "Free DVR for Life" but when an existing customer calls to request this discount, even a customer spending $300/month total on services and who has been a customer for many years, they are not able to receive the promotion. For whatever reason Verizon has their long-time, loyal customers pay more and offers the exclusive discounts only to new customers. I don't see how that is fair. I explained to a representative today that in order to receive the Free DVR for Life discount, I am more than willing to sign a contract to stay with Verizon for several years. He said it wasn't possible for me to receive this discount. We are paying much more than I'd like to pay for these services, and financially it is hard for me to make a payment of $300 each month. Anything that can be done to offer a good will discount to us as long-time, loyal customers will be helpful to us in these hard economic times. Ideally, I'd like to be offered the same discount "for life" on DVR that new customers are receiving, and I will indeed be a Verizon customer for life. We are seriously considering switching to Comcast due to cost (they're much less expensive!) and customer service.

Please consider offering this Free DVR for Life discount to us a long-time customers who have TV, Internet, Phone and 2 Cell Phones with you on One-Bill.

Thank you.

Verizon is harassing people in my area as they just rolled FIOS out
there. Teey called me 3 times in 3 days and each time my answer was
the same:

- "Not interested".
- "Why Not?"
- "Because I'm only paying $19.99 for Verizon DSL right now, it's good
enough for me and I don't want to pay more."
- "But FIOS is only $19.99 right now!"
- "Yeah, and in a year, it'll go up to $100 or something. I'M NOT
INTERESTED!"

They put me on their do-not-call list but if I get another call from
them...as soon as I hear "Verizon", I'm just going to hang up. I
simply have better things to do with my time than repeat myself.

Honestly, get a real job, you cold callers.

Tell them "Do not call me again" by PepperElf Thu February 2, 2012 @ 4:00 PM

You're not a new customer. Therefore they don't need to sweeten the
deal since they know you're hooked.

if they give it to you then they have to let EVERYONE have it. and
what good is that?

I stopped doing business with Verizon many years ago and will never do
business with them again. They are a greedy company. There are many
other options out there available to you that are much cheaper and
offer the same quality as Verizon.

I'm switching to Comcast too. I understand exactly what your saying
about the DVR. Verizon prices are getting out of control. We have two
DVR boxes, plus a simple cable box and were paying almost $60 for the
three. My father has Comcast and doesn't pay anywhere close to what I
pay for my boxes. I have to agree with the one user who said to tell
them you would cancel. I've done that with Verizon and received HBO
free for six months. At the same time Comcast offered me Showtime free
for the whole year. And HBo and Stars for a reasonable price. Hope it
works out for you.

Tell them you are going to cancel. That will most likely get the
reaction you are looking for, most cable providers will offer free
extras if they think you are going to leave...not stay.

Why do you have cable. You don't NEED cable, you want cable. Cable
isn't a necessity to live last I checked...

you as you've already made a commitment to them. Sure it sucks, but
Verizon isn't alone in doing this.
If you are struggling to make the $300 monthly payment in these hard
economic times, you might consider trimming some of the services. I
recently realized that I was paying for premium channels that I rarely
watched, so I dumped them. I now have an extra $50 in my pocket each
month.
