Scary Verizon Representative

Posted Mon May 4, 2009 12:00 pm, by Suzi S. written to Verizon Local Telephone (and FIOS)

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

To whom it may concern:

Saturday night the 3rd of May an older man (I understand from my neighbors) was on my porch apparently representing Verizon, and attempting to sell products.

He screamed out my full name, banged on my screen door, and wouldn't leave for 5-10 minutes, as I don't open the door for people I don't know.

As I didn't open the door, I do not know what Verizon products he was selling, and he did not mention Verizon to me. I mentioned this nutcase to my neighbors, and they said he was screaming outside their door also, and was selling some sort of Verizon product(s).

I called Verizon customer service and they indicated they had to have his name, in order to report him, as he was no doubt representing a contractor. I then advised them, that if I couldn't complain to them, then I would have to complain about not being able to complain.

This man intimidated and scared the heck out of me. I didn't know if he was a process server, or simply a man who was not in control of his faculties. In the 30+ years I've lived here, I have never dealt with anyone behaving as he did at my front door.

Whether Verizon sent him out with a list of people to try and upgrade, or a contractor did, he is representing your company.

I don't want anything, except for this man to be stopped. And frankly if he did this to the wrong person, he could have been shot, or at the least the police called out.

This is not acceptable behavior.

Thanks,

Suzi

something tells me he was a scammer pretending to be a verizon
employee. There's many out there with the bad economy.

Since when do these companies go door to door anyway? I have never had
them come to my door.

If he was elderly maybe he was an Alzheimers patient who was lost. I
mean he could have been a salesman for Verizon before and now has
something medically wrong.
(Far fetched idea I am sure but hey..anything is possible in this
day).

You're right--he is lucky that no one sicked a guard dog on him, or
that no one shot him.

I can't imagine why all these people tolerated this and no one called
the police.

Ma'am...

Yes, I think you should have called the police.

It's not illegal for him to come up and knock, but for him to STAY and
keep harassing you when you obviously don't want to let him in?

That's worth calling the police.

After all...

I didn't realize Verizon actually sent people out door-to-door to sell
stuff... so it's very possible he wasn't an employee at all, but some
kind of scam artist or criminal, or even someone who was mentally
unbalanced.

I do hope however that he doesn't return, and that *someone* calls the
cops on him...

He doesn't sound very safe...

I agree, if it happens again the police should be called. I don't
know what Verizon can do, without a name, I don't think anyone can
even be sure that he really was representing Verizon.

This was a matter for the police, not a Verizon phone rep. There was
nothing they could do for you over the phone. Had you called the
police, you would then have at least known the man's name and could
have reported it to Verizon. Now he's gone, and you have no
information at all, not even a description of what he looks like.

I agree that he could have easily been shot if this happened in the
wrong place. That's another reason it was important to call the
police.

"This man intimidated and scared the heck out of me."

If it were me I would have called the police.

or perhaps is in the process of earning membership in one.

There isn't any way of knowing if he represented Verizon at all.

It makes sense that VZ would need more information to pursue this. It
could have been I outside your door screaming about Verizon - as a
stockholder I get fired up sometimes. But I don't represent them.

Maybe he was special needs, or hard of hearing.

Good Day
