I paid my last Verizon landline bill in 2005 via money order and sent it certified mail return receipt requested. I never heard anything more from Verizon and assumed all was ok. Now that I'm buying a house I see on my credit reports that Verizon is listing 4 seperate account entries and have sold the same accounts to 3 separate junk debt buyers! All of this is showing on my credit reports.
I have contacted several people in customer service and although I have faxed in my proof of payment and am promised "we will update our records" NOTHING GETS DONE. The last customer service rep actually said to me "The money order receipt and mailing receipt do not prove you sent us any money" - WHAT?!!!
Each rep gives me a different answer or a different promise.... some reps bother to make notes others have not. In this horrible economy it is difficult to understand why Verizon cannot employ competent customer service reps.
This is crazy! I am going to try this forum one more time to get resolution and if I can't I see no other recourse than to file a formal complaint with the NJ State Attorney General + Public Utilites Commission + FCC and hire lawyer to sue Verizon if necessary. I am extremely frustrated with Verizon's unwillingness to correct their error in a timely manner.
