We recently moved and placed an order to change service which was on July 21st, they stated it would be 2 weeks to get in transferred, unbeleivable but what could we do, We waited 2 weeks and nothing finally talked to someone who said we need a trench dug and a pipe underground. This was 2 weeks ago, we wait and I called and they said they would be out on August 18th at that point I stated that my husband is on a kidney transplant list and will lose the chance at a kidney without a phone. They the next date was August 15th. We noticed the rope had been pulled through so we hooked up our phone, no service, while my husband is hoping there was no phone call for a kidney for his life. Called yesterday, person stated it is not hooked up yet will be done by tomorrow, nothing happened, called again today, now they are telling us Sept 19th, you have got to be kidding me, he tells them about the kidney transplant list and now it is August 25th, you are joking right, it takes over 6 weeks to get a phone, my husband, might lose a chance at this kidney, he is now inactive and off the list because he does not have a home phone number, his life is at stake and "Al" cannot come out and hook the line from the pole to the house, I am just in sheer shock, I am so amazed that at the techonology we have today and the resources and the money we pay, you are not able to get a phone to our house sooner. What am I supposed to do watch my husband die, because it takes 2 months to get a phone line in. I pay for my service and I want service, I hope there is not bill for the last month and until we get phone service, this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever dealt with in my life, I have talked to so many people and I am going to the newspaper and TV, maybe they can get a phone line to my house so my husband has a chance at a kidney. The funny thing is when you call your customer service, everyone passes the buck, they state YOU WERE TALKING TO THE WRONG PEOPLE, what does that mean, how can that be,

I want my phone hooked up now, I want my husband to have a chance at a kidney, his life, does anyone care or understand>????????

By the way...
Writing a letter via PF isn't the way to get a phone, if your husband's life relies on it. While I'm sure your husband does need a kidney, I think you're using this to elicit sympathy. If my spouse's life depending on something, like phone service, I wouldn't write a letter on a web site and hope that my letter was being read. I'd do something. Like, as I said, get a cell phone.
However...
I have an experience with Verizon that's slightly similar. A few years back, a too-big truck came down our street and ripped the overhead phone lines. I called Verizon (using my cell phone) and they said that because of a strike, they couldn't promise a repair for several weeks! Since only my house was affected, they said it was a low priority.
The day before, a neighbor had been raped and killed. The rapist was not captured.
I was scheduled to go on a business trip. Needless to say, my wife didn't like the idea of being alone without a phone with a rapist on the loose. At the time, she didn't have a cell phone.
What to do? I tried the sympathy card and told the Verizon woman (who was a manager, since the normal CSRs were also on strike) about the rapist. She said "I wouldn't want your wife to be raped, but I don't think it'll happen. I cannot escalate service for you for a rape I know will not occur."
In the end, I left my cell phone (fully charged!) with my wife.
Verizon took about a week to send someone to fix the problem. No rapist, thank goodness.

Yikes! Two words: cell phone.
I had a co-worker who was waiting for a kidney. He made sure his cell phone was fully charged at all times, you can be sure.
