Past Credit Account from Current Valued Customer

I had been a long time Verizon wireless subscriber starting in 2006. Following my move to college and switching cell services providers I had closed my Verizon account. Fast forward 2-some years later and I receive word of a collecting attempt on the part of Verizon for around ~$40.00 USD. Not wanting to hurt my future credit for a measily $40.00 I agreed to pay on the condition that any reference to this on my three credit reports (Experian, Transunion and Equifax) be deleted. The conditions were agreed and I made payment. However, two years later I still see the negative account listed on my credit report and all attempts at communication are met with standard company jargon or dismissal. I hold a high revolving account with my wife with Verizon for the last four years with zero delinquency and the thought of Verizon insisting on not fulfilling their commitment on deletion of the previous debt angers me enough to look elsewhere.

Ensure the happiness of a current customer and understand that the agreement to delete the $40.00 debt does happen by not only their in-house collections department but also companies acting on behalf of Verizon. I just want to clear my credit report of this on all three credit reporting agencies.
