Unhappy!

When I was in high school, my dad got me a cell phone. A few months later I decided to go off to college and didn't want to keep the phone because it was expensive. We cancelled the plan and my dad paid the early termination fee.
However, this has been showing up on my credit report as still being unpaid. I have been trying really hard to have good credit and it is very upsetting they won't correct this even though I have disputed it.

Remove the entry from my credit report completely.

dispute it with the carrier or with the 3 bureaus?

If you dispute it with the three bureaus they temporarily remove it
from your record and the company in question HAS to provide
documentation showing how they arrived at this information.

If they don't respond or come up with sufficient verification in 30-60
days (depending on the bureau) the entry is eliminated and that's the
end of it.

But if it IS valid, then you have the opportunity to deal with it with
them and hopefully resolve the deliquency.

I think it's weird that it's showing up on YOUR credit report. You
presumably were a minor (maybe an 18yo senior at most). Did your dad
add you to the family plan or did he get you your own plan in your own
name?

Shannyn A.,

I can't tell how much time has passed since this started.

Maybe you can search out a copy of a cancelled check in the amount of
the early termination fee.

If the payment was made via a credit card your Dad needs to contact
his credit card company to see how they might help.

Good luck. Stop back and let us know what comes of your efforts.
