No Size Selection At Victoria's Secret

Posted Mon April 17, 2006, by Sarah B. written to Victoria's Secret

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

My problem is your availability of sizes. I feel that my size is pretty average...I wear a size 12, sometimes 14. My bra size is 38C. I have a hard time finding bras that fit well, or sometimes even finding my size at all.

My main complaint is with the lingerie. I would love to wear the cute and sexy stuff that you sell, but for some reason, your company must feel that only skinny people are worthy of wearing your things.

I have a $50 gift card that I received a year and a half ago, but still haven't used because of your lack of size selection. I just want to know why you don't make larger sizes. I'm not even asking for you to carry a whole line of plus sizes, just XL or possibly XXL.

Can you explain to me your reason for not having these sizes available? I would very much appreciate a response to my letter.

the size isn't available because there isn't enough demand for it. Try
a 36D. It's essentially the same size.

On the flip side of the argument:

I would be what you consider "skinny, young, hip, etc", yet I can't
buy lingerie at Victoria's Secret either because they only make them
in the 34-38 B-D cup range and I am a 32 A (and no, the 34 B does NOT
fit, I tried :D). Basically the only thing they make in my size are
push up bras because apparently flat chested girls can't be sexy
without some padding. I gave up and went to Fredericks, where they at
least try to make everyone feel sexy. Victoria's Secret really should
wake up and realize that they're missing out on a pretty decent
section of the market since ladies on both extremes aren't able to buy
their lingerie.

Actually its not the skinny they cater to, its the smaller breasted.
Skinny/thin/ slender doesn't mean small breasted.

The majority of VS clothing is bras- and I know alot of small breasted
and large breasted/small banded that can't find anything at VS
either.

28-32 band C + cup sizes:

Again-
Its not the skinny- its the small breasted in 34/36 bands- up to a DD

Its so true. im a plus size girl and I hate going to victorias secret
with my sister(skinny) cause its a waste of time. i never find
anything. I have always said that it would be great if they had just a
little line for plussize. There are alot of models that are plus size
like Toccara from Americas next top model. or that girl from the show
Degrassi. Alot of models in Torrid. We aint asking a whole store just
for us. But just a mini section. i mean the average woman size is a
14. Hello. You would make more money if you target us.

Victoria's Secret stores carry bras in every style and color up to a
38D, with the exception of the "Sexy Little Thing" line and some of
the 3rd party vendors, which are only offered at select stores,
anyway. Any bras which are offered in DD's go to a 38DD. Like any
retailer, stores do run out of product. Colors, other than black,
white, and nude, are seasonal...once they are gone, they are gone. In
addition, some styles are available in the catalog/web site up to a
40DD.
It is true that lingerie sizing is a bit more limited. Victoria's
Secret large typically fits an average-height female size 12, give or
take. Hopefully there are knowledgeable sales associates at your
local location...let them know your dilemma, and be open to their
suggestions. They have several tools, including fittings and the Bra
Wardrobing Center, to help you out. If the associates are not able to
help you, a manager hopefully can.
Also, Victoria's Secret offers a wide variety of body care and beauty
products that may be of interest to you.

A 38C at Victoria Secret is really a 32 A, I am not kidding! I am a DD
and would never fit into their version of a DD- and the models are
false advertising- a real Victoria Secret Bra wouldn't fit if they had
that big of a chest!!!!!!! I have had the best success with Fedricks
of Hollywood- they may even honor a portion of your gift card as a
courtesy. They have great lingerie and sausey Sarah Jessica Parker
dresses in plus sizes!!

Men don't marry fat women because they look good in lingerie. So don't
worry. My wife is a large lady. She never wears lingerie. Stick to
the large T-shirts that can be lifted easily to take care of business!

I agree with you 100% sista!! I'm about the same size as you, and I
can't find anything in there either. I guess us big ladies aren't
worthy of trying to look attractive in lingerie. Keep fighting
girl!!! :)

Have you ever tried Lane Bryant? Some of there lingerie is great.

Their catalog offers larger sizes and some awesome non-lingerie
clothing. My 16 year-old daughter loves some of the shirts and
sweaters we've gotten through the catalog. Go to the website and look
at some of the tops. When things are on sale or clearance, the prices
are great. Do what you can to get the catalog delivered to your home.
Be forewarned, though: They seem to be sending out a new one every
week right now.

I too get frustrated that I can't find the bra style I like in the
color I want at VS stores. But I realize that the stores cater to
the, um, younger and thinner crowd. So I get fitted at the store and
then go home and order from the catalog or online.

Be sure to check the return policy, though. I know that I haven't
ordered pants or jeans from the catalog because I'm not sure they'll
fit and I wasn't keen on the return policy. But I don't remember
*why* right now.

I wear 38C, and I buy the VS IPEX no wire bras. They're EXCELLENT,
maybe not lacy/sexy but they are very comfortable and supportive. Go
in and get one of those!

Good letter.

I gave up on V.S. a long time ago. Their loss because I used to spend
a TON of money there. I have never been a skinny woman but I used to
be able to find some stuff there. I spent a fortune in undies and
bras. I still have a nightgown from there that I have about worn out
but its one of my favorites.

I would suggest using your gift card to buy some of their bath stuff
or perfume. They have some wonderful scents!! Or you could use it to
do some early Christmas shopping for someone else. Or just give the
card away.

But obviously V.S. is NOT in the business of catering to people who
are above average size and thats a sham. But there are plent of other
places to go that do cater to us. Even Fredericks of Hollywood carries
sexy stuff in more sizes that V.S. does. I hope they take your
suggestions and run with it (although I dont see a problem in them
coming out with a plus size line) but I wouldnt hold my breath.

Find out if your giftcard has any value left(some places deduct after
a year) and then sell it on e-bay...then go to bravissimo.com or
figleaves.com.

Little known fact:
Victorias Secret undergarments are made at the same place as
Maidenform and Hanes underwear.
/little known fact.

Too bad you have a gift certificate. Maybe you can find an outfit or
pajamas at their store online?

I'm a 36D/DD.

Here's the scoop: most of that "cute and sexy stuff" IS just for
skinny people (or, more accurately, women with small to average
breasts) because the cute and sexy stuff doesn't offer any support.
Have you ever tried to wear a thin, sheer, nylon bra? Even with an
underwear, it's like you're not wearing anything at all.

That, and VS has an image to maintain, and I'm guessing they don't
want a bunch of large women shopping in their stores. That's just my
assumption. I no longer shop there because (1) they don't have bras
that fit me and (2) I hate the smell of their heavily-scented
lotions/perfumes.

I don't know if Lane Bryant or other larger-size-clothing stores carry
lingerie (they must, mustn't the?), but if they do, I bet they have
some sexy stuff, because those stores know their market and where the
money can be made.

Although the average size woman in America is a size 14, Victoria's
Secret caters to the tiny women of the world and unfortunately, that's
just the way it is. Many complaints have been written on PFB about
the fact they only carry small sizes and nothing has changed - - some
retailers target a certain segment of the market and VS is one of
them. I wear a size 8 and can't squeeze into half the stuff they
sell!

I would suggest that a.) you determine if your gift card still has any
value after a year and a half, and b.) try to either find a bra that
fits or select something from their bath and beauty line.

I am a plus sized woman, and my husband loves to shop for me at
Victoria's Secret. He has managed to find wonderful nightgowns for me.
Maybe you can use the gift card, (if anything is left on it) for
sleepware.

I believe their catalog or online site has additional sizes available.
Hopefully that will help you find what you're looking for.

This is a very well written letter - much better than the "Target made
me cry" one. But I'm going to say the same thing. Not all stores are
cut out for all people. Especially someplace like Victoria's Secret
which, as you pointed out, seems to market solely to the skinny types.
However, I am going to guess that the company has a reason for this
and that it hasn't hurt their sales. For a specialty store like this,
I think it's wrong (I didn't think Target was all off base) because
you're right - they should market a slightly larger line (though if
you're a size 12, you wouldn't qualify as an XL, anyway).

As for the bras, I think your size is probably a common one, which may
be why you had trouble finding them.

Either way, this is a good letter and I hope you get a response.

You might want to check to see if that gift card is even worth
anything now. Gift cards are not always good for an indefinite amount
of time.
