who produces GV dairy

I need to know who is the manufacturer of your butter and cheese products. I have become aware of the gross abuse of dairy cows of a brand name manufacturer and I do not want to buy any products produced from that company. I really love your butter and cheese products. But if i cannot obtain an answer from your company I will pay more for those products from a manufacturer who I KNOW does not commit these gross act of cruelty to their cows.

As far as I know, WalMart does not produce their own anything, but
they have products that are manufactured by others exclusively for
them.

The back of every box should tell you who the manufacturer is and may
even include contact info.

HOWEVER, that doesn't mean you will be able to find out if the product
came from "abused cows."

The problem with taking Internet Lore at facevalue is that most times,
it's WAY blown out of proportion and nearly impossible to verify.

I'd suggest sticking to a brand you trust and calling it a day. If
you listen to every "warning" out there, pretty soon there won't be
ANYTHING left that you can buy!

that's why it's best to go to the farm if you're worried about where the milk comes from by PepperElf Mon September 3, 2012 @ 5:27 PM

o-your-area.html

Check this site out. It should be able to locate the dairy in which
your milk comes from.

It may be possible to buy local milk from a local farmer. they
generally treat their animals better and likely they are healthier.
Another option is goats milk, my favorite next to almond milk, since I
don't drink cows milk. Good luck and hope you can find something you
are happy with.

Um, I assure you, the majority of dairy cows are horribly treated, not
humanely at all. Organic Valley and Horizon are better bets. I
promise you, the dairy products you're getting from mainstreet dairies
are not treating their animals humanely.

I think that murdering cows for their meat is 'gross act of cruelty"

You do realize that even brushing your teeth kills cows right? by PepperElf Mon August 27, 2012 @ 11:38 AM

Doesn't matter after the cow is dead. by sarahsmile Mon August 27, 2012 @ 1:05 PM

how is raising a cow to kill it for toothpaste different than raising it to kill it for food? by PepperElf Mon August 27, 2012 @ 1:23 PM

What? Killed for toothpaste? by sarahsmile Mon August 27, 2012 @ 5:14 PM

How did people ever exist before grocery stores?

And to be honest, I really doubt this "abuse" you speak of really
exists the way you're imagining it.

If you ever looked up machine-operated milking operations you'd see
just how "abusive" it really is.

And I say "abusive" very sarcastically. I found a vid of an
automatic milking farm operation and the emphasis was on the fact that
comfortable cows produce more milk.

The cow-comfort in automated farms comes from several facts

- The cow choses when to be milked. No waiting for Farmer X to get to
her, she can just milk herself.

- This also means the cow won't be in any pain. Like human females...
it *hurts* when you're full of milk and can't get rid of it.

- The cows aren't fully separated from the herd while being milked.
the pens are often in view of the rest of the herd. So their stress
levels stay down.

I know it's dramatic to run around saying "cows are being abused"
but... think about it. An abused cow would not give good milk. A
happy stress free cow gives more quality milk.

Which means more profit. Why would someone flush that down the
drain?

Or if you're still not convinced, just buy it directly from the farm.
Then you know where it's from.

Because in the other letter the company seems to be under 50, which makes it exempt from those laws anyway n/t by PepperElf Mon August 27, 2012 @ 11:42 AM

50 employees that is. iirc that's the cutoff for having to comply n/t by PepperElf Mon August 27, 2012 @ 11:43 AM

The great value brand is a no-frills/store brand/private label - it
the same as any other store brand no matter which store you go to -
the stores take bids from manufactures and the lowest bidder wins. So
who produces the milk/dairy can change depending on who has the lowest
bid at time.
