WALMART CSM'S ARE RUDE AND SHOULD BE FIRED

Posted Thu December 11, 2003, by Lee D. written to Wal-Mart

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

I would like to bring your attention a complaint I have about the staff attitude/knowledge at your store, located at st augustine rd valdosta, ga. Specifically, I'm writing about rude/unhelpful staff. I am extremely upset about this, and I hope you are able to resolve this situation.

I HAD A CHILD SUPPORT CHECK WITH WHICH TO PAY FOR MY PURCHASE, I HAVE CASHED THESE CHECKS AT WALMART EVERY MONTH FOR THE LAST 3 YRS. THIS TIME HOWEVER, THE CHECK READER COULD NOT PICK UP THE NUMBERS OR THE ACCOUNT NUMBERS ON THE CHECK THE CASHIER CALLED OVER A CSM A DARK HAIRED YOUNG WOMAN AND ASKED HER TO HELP HER, SHE PROCEDED TO PUT THE CHECK IN THE READER AND RUDELY TOLD ME TO ENTER IN MY SS# I DID AND IT STILL WOULD NOT WORK, SHE DID THIS 4 MORE TIMES AND TOLD THE CASHIER, NOT ME SHE NEVER EVEN LOOKED AT ME(MAYBE BECAUSE I AM IN A WHEELCHAIR) ANYWAYS SHE TOLD THE CASHIER "NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT, WON'T WORK GIVE HER BACK HER CHECK" AND SHE WALKED AWAY. I PUT ALL THE STUFF THAT I HAD PURCHASED ON THE COUNTER AND LEFT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO ANGRY AND HUMILIATED BY A MANAGER IN MY WHOLE LIFE. SHE WAS RUDE, INSENSITIVE AND JUST PLAIN UGLY.

I would definitely think twice before spending money at your store again, and I will urge everyone I know to steer clear as well. In the past, quite frankly, I've been fairly dissatisfied with you. Usually, I visit your store more than 15 times per month. I spend $16-$30.

Here's what I'd like to see Wal-Mart do about this: I WANT HER FIRED!!!! THERE IS NO WAY THAT IF SHE DEALT WITH ME THAT WAY THAT SHE HAS ANY CONSIDERATION OR TACT WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO MIGHT BE HANDICAPPED OR EVEN A BIT SLOW. THE WOMAN IN THE LINE BEHIND ME ACTUALLY RAN AFTER ME TO SAY THAT SHE WAS SORRY AND THAT THERE WAS NO REASON FOR HER TO TREAT ME LIKE THAT.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

I am a cashier at a Walmart in Clayton, GA. For me, All of my
customers are treated with respected! A similar situation happened to
me. I rang up the ladies items and she was going to pay with some type
of government check. It went through all these processes that I've
never experienced. However, it took me through the first few.. SS#,
Name (sometimes it asks for that), then it asked if she'd ever change
her last name. She told me she had, so it then asked me to enter that
last name. For some reason her check wasn't working. I kept trying,
finally the lady her behind yelled, "Can you get a manager or someone
who knows what they are doing so I can hurry out of here?!" I felt
like she was literally yelling directly in my face. I'm 18, I'm not
the type to yell back, so I calmly told her I would. While waiting I
thought my customers were going to get into because they made a
comment to each other. I just stood in silence. My CSM came over and
tried several times, but the check still wouldn't read. Honestly, I
read about all these bad and horrible stories that people have from
other Walmart, but our Walmart is soo different. Everyone there is
just so happy and nice all the time. Even the managers, imagine that!
We kindly tell the lady with the check to go to Customer Service to
ask for further assistance. Then it was time for my break. So I didn't
ring up the lady who yelled at me. After that, the same CSM approached
me and told me the one who yelled at me wanted to make sure I was okay
because the with the check seemed crazy and I was shocked. She was
apologizing for the lady with check when she'd done nothing, when she
should have really apologized for yelling in my face! You just have to
learn to laugh it off. But as a customer you shouldn't have dealt with
what you did, in a wheelchair or not. You are still a customer. If you
are ever in North Georgia, come to our Walmart. In Clayton. My
customers are the best thing about my day at work!

I'm sorry I made you read a lot!

Thanks for reading it though.
-Lindsey :)

I was once a CSM, now I am the Assistant Manager in charge of the
Front End at store #1689 in Aurora, Colorado. I agree that the CSM's
conduct was in fact unprofessional. However I do not understand the
nature of this complaint. Maybe it is just my store, but Customer
Service is the only place that cashes any checks besides the Wal-Mart
associates checks on payday. Most registers simply do not have enough
money to cash checks there, especially after myself and the CSM's go
around and remove big bills from the registers every couple of hours.

But here is how I would handle the situation, and I would except
nothing less of my CSMs:

Personally take the customer to an unopened register, log on, and try
the check there. If it still doesn't work, I would explain that there
is either something wrong with the system or that there is something
wrong with the check and there is nothing I can do about it. Then
politely apologize.

Walmarts CSM was not rude but could not help me or
checker cash TWO DIFFERENT CHECKS on subject machine.
It was very embarrasing and a comment from another
person in line, directed at ME, almost caused a problem. What is one
supposed to do when WALMART's
equipment will not cash TWO checks from different
accounts. Walmart is losing customers and has lost me.
I hope they see this. This small town is looking for
better treatment. Marble Falls, Texas

Hello, I am a CSM at a store in Arkansas and I can tell you that the
way the CSM acted towards you WAS rude. She should have calmly
explained to you that the check reader could not read your check,
rubbed the routing/account numbers on the check with a paperclip and
tried another register's check reader after suspending the
transaction. You should not be expected to now how she should have
handled it, only that she should provide you with quality, speedy
customer service you deserve for you dedicated shopping to the
company. However, there ARE instances when a check just cannot be
read and since we are not bonded like bank employees we cannot cash a
check unless it is electronically approved through our system. I hope
this answers some of your questions.

How did you get in a wheelchair, did you drink and drive and get into
an accident, it sounds to me like you were drunk when you wrote this
letter and only want her fired because she was ugly. Well maybe in
everyone's eyes you are ugly, because you have scares from getting
into an accident driving drunk. You want equal rights but when
something benifits you you want special treatment. If you want equal
rights that also includes saying no to special treatment. It works
both ways. Equal rights does not work just to benefit you.
