Walgreen's Pharmacist Goes Above And Beyond

I have severe sulfa allergies (both contact and ingestion) and have been looking for a new pharmacy for quite a while that would be willing to work with me to prevent my medications from being cross contaminated with allergens while being filled.
Yesterday I went to three of your competitor's pharmacies to see what they could do to help me, and sadly none of them were willing to guarantee that they would be able to limit my exposure, especially during busy times. I left all three of those pharmacies upset and feeling defeated. I needed to find that little light at the end of the tunnel.
My last stop in a very stressful trip was your Walgreen's pharmacy located at 1801 N Main St
Madisonville, KY 42431.
I went back to the pharmacy and spoke to the pharmacist Rachel and explained my needs as well as asked what she could do to assist me with them, and in what I could only describe as going above and beyond, she was willing to do for me what everyone else should have.
She wrote notes in my file, she explained every detail, even small ones about how they would handle my prescriptions, she gave me the much needed assurance I was looking for.
It is very hard to get prescriptions filled when you have such severe drug allergies like mine, but with the measures that your pharmacist and certified technician put into place to ensure my health and safety, I have no doubt in my mind that I can trust your staff with my life.

wouldnt pharmacies need special,air-tight equipment for that? I can only imagine all the allergen particles in the air!

that cross-contamination practices aren't standard protocol in someplace as critical as a pharmacy. That's like saying an O.R. can't promise it will be 100% sterile!
Thanks for bringing this situation to light and for taking the time to give Rachel the Kudos she deserved!

I think Rachel could give lessons in customer service.
What a great letter and how nice that you took the time to make sure Walgreen's knows that they have such a valuable employee.

Simply a wonderful letter.
Please consider writing letters of complaint/suggestion to the OTHER pharmacies involved, hopefully with the result of spurring them to adjust their attitudes and practices. Surely there are others out there with drug allergies to be concerned about!

What a great letter! Thanks for sharing your positive experience with Walgreen's. I have been using the Walgreen's in Lake Forest, California for the past 8 years and they are wonderful. Both of the pharmacists know me by name and always go above and beyond with their service and advice.

Great letter! I think it's excellent that you go above and beyond for your allergy situation and I think it's great that you've informed the pharmacy of this so that they can do as much as possible to limit your exposure. I do have to comment on the guarantee of cross contamination. Unfortunately, there is really no way to guarantee this. As much as you try to wipe down counting trays, counting spatulas, counters with alcohol sometimes even the minute amount of Sulfa, which is a very popular drug/derivative, may still get by and would be enough to send someone into anaphylactic shock. Because of that, I can understand why the other pharmacies were totally upfront about this and I'm quite sure that they would've done as much as possible to limit your exposure.
