No, you're not entitled to anything. You should've price checked before you shopped. I mean, after all, you stated that the Walmart and Walgreens are located in the same campus, right? Seems easy enough to go from one to the other to check.

The Walgreens where I live does not have a policy of price matching which seems to be the case with the store you dealt with. They will not change their policy because you disagree with it.
Why should Walgreens reimburse you for time and fuel when you should have compared prices in the first place thus avoiding the whole situation.
Walgreens doesn't owe you a dime.

Where on earth do people like this get the stupid idea store policies shouldn't apply to them? And how does Walgreen's owe you a discount just because you want it?
You know, business is a two way transaction people, and far too many embarrass everyone else with their freakish entitlement attitudes and lack of respect for the legal and social rights of businesses and their employees.

If you were that interested in price matching you should've looked up their policy before this experience. If they did price match, which others have said they do not, I can assure you they would not price match Walmart because it is a discount store.

Apparently, you do compare prices and you're not a loyal customer. Otherwise, you wouldn't have known the price difference.
Saying "no" to you is NOT "shoddy" treatment. It's simply enforcement of company policy. This is "the customer is always right" attitude taken too far.
Sometimes, they're not. Sometimes the customer is mistaken or even wrong.

With the bit of money that she saved, she spent it all on the gallon of gas it took her to go home and bring it back and exchange it and then go to Walmart. I rarely go to Walgreens cause I know it will be cheaper at either WalMart, Target, or Kmart.

If Walgreens ever did have a price matching policy it would HAVE to come from corporate itself. Managers just couldn't take it upon themselves to price modify whenever they felt like it. This would be a loss prevention nightmare. So, in other words, don't blame the manager.

As Sumnerman has confirmed, they don't do price matches.
But what about The PlanetFeedback Team's reminder that Walgreen's should try to satisfy their customer? A good manager would have said "thank you for bringing this to our attention," opened the register, and handed her $6.45.

What what many folks here are saying, Walgreens does not price match. ( We have one here, but I havent shopped there since they opened; their prices were higher than anyone else in town)
So, why would the OP expect them to price match???
Second, if a store does price match, they do it at the POS, right? For example, a lot fo the grocery stores here do the deal where if you bring in a competitor ad with a better price, the store will sell you the item at the competitor's price.
Do stores normally match after the fact? Forgive me, I really dont use the whole price match concept and it seems odd to me to ask for it after the fact.

Walgreens doesn't price match, period, end of sentence. No does not equal rude or shoddy. It was your choice to spend money on gas to go home and get the items to return them. With gas prices the way they are, it doesn't make any sense to do that in order to save $6.45 but you made that choice.

And the entitlement fairy waves her magic wand...
I've asked this before, but I didn't get a response, so I'll ask you...
Could you give me a breakdown on exactly how you require your 'time' to be reimbursed?
Do we expect monetary recompense or will we need to alter time and space so that you can regain those precious lost moments back thereby enjoying your extra $6.45 unfettered?
If money is required to make you 'whole', will you be charging a flat fee for the time lost or will you break it out into minutes, seconds, nanoseconds, etc?
And no fair padding out your time 'lost' by counting that trip to Dunkin Donuts on the way...that's just greedy.

Walgreens doesn't price match. Wal-Mart buys in a much larger bulk quantity than drug store chains. A lot of times Walgreen's cost of an item is even more than the retail price that Wal-Mart charges for that item.
The only chance that Walgreens can stay in business is to provide convenient - speedy service. That's what is stressed at our stores. I can't count the number of times a customer has come in hoping to find an item even though it might be more expensive than Wal-Mart just so they don't have to go to Wal-Mart.
Think about this. Convenience (i.e. 7-11) stores charges almost double for their grocery items when compared to even Walgreens. Do you think these convenience stores should price match with Walgreens? Of course not. You're comparing "apples to oranges" in this case just like you're comparing "apples to oranges" when comparing Walgreens and Wal-Mart.
I "love" the "loyal customer" concept. It's an overused term. In your case it's inane. If I have two customers -- one being a "loyal" customer and the other being a first time customer -- I guess I should price match with the loyal customer but not with the first time customer. WRONG. Fair is fair and it is not dependent on whether a person is a "loyal" customer.

You claim you are a loyal customer. Not true.
I eat the same cereal every morning. WalMart sells it for $2.79 a box. At my local supermarket the regular price is $2.99 a box. When it goes on sale the price is $2.50 a box.
One time I bought the cereal in WalMart because it wasn't on sale at Wegman's, and I knew I could save .20 a box. It occured to me I would much rather pay regular price at Wegman's if I hadn't bought enough on sale to last me until the next sale. I felt I was being disloyal to my regular store in order to save some money.
So, out of loyalty I pay a higher price sometimes. I feel a lot better about myself. I suggest you consider rethinking what "loyalty" means.
By the way, a store can price things any way they want. If they don't normally match prices, there is no reason to expect them to for you. I would have told you to go elsewhere if you tried to strongarm me into a price match.

You expected a price match AFTER you purchased the items and took them home? Does Walgreens even have a price matching policy? If not, then why do you think you're entitled to one? It was your choice to spend time and gas to return the merchandise, and if you're going to compare all prices with Walmart in the future, it's going to take an awful lot of time and gas. Wouldn't that defeat the purpose?
If you really were a loyal customer, you wouldn't be comparing prices to Walmart. You're just looking for the cheapest price.
