WalMart started its Black Friday sale early

I am voicing great displeasure in regard to the Black Friday sale of the E-Machine laptop computer for $198.00 that was advertised. I arrived at the store at 4:15 a.m. to find that the store was open and people were inside. I searched to find the area in which the laptops would be that were advertised. After asking several associates, 15 minutes pass before I found the right place to go. Once I asked the associate in that area, she informed me that laptops had sold out. I couldn't understand how this could be. This was before 5:00 a.m. The line was quite long and those who had come at who knows what time received a ticket to receive this laptop PRIOR to the opening time.
I was bewildered. This wasn't the only item that I was coming to purchase and I made my selection and had to stand in line at a registered for the remaining 30 minutes to wait until 5:00 a.m. in order to be checked out. I was told be a customer that the tickets had been given out some time before and that the store only received a little more than 50 laptops and yet gave out over 60 tickets.
This is grossly unfair to other shoppers who came for this purpose. The sale was only to begin at 5:00 a.m. Tickets should not have been handed out prior to that time, regardless if the checkout time was at 5:00 a.m. This gave shoppers who arrived prior and had earlier access an unfair advantage being that the store should have actually allowed people inside at 5:00 a.m. I strongly field that they misrepresented the advertisement.
If at all possible, I would like the opportunity to purchase this laptop, as I am in need of one at a reasonable price.

Yes we to were screwed out of a change to buy a Emachine laptop at Sonora,CA walmart as the wrist bands were given out to people way befor 5:00 am. Screwing every one else out of a change to buy one. They should of had everyone in line for the 65 laptops they had to sell giving everyone a equal change to buy them. Instead they gave out wrist bands and let everyone go all over the store and they held the laptops untill 6:00am for people to show up to get thier laptops making others to wait and see if they showed up at all. POOR WAY TO DO BLACK FRIDAY!!!!! Yes I am still pissed about the bad way they screwed everyone else!!!!!!!! Maybe I'll strat doing my buying some place eles!!!!

but if those people were there earlier than you, it would be "grossly unfair" for them not to get first chance at the sale. God only knows how long they stood there waiting before you got there!
Are you going to honestly say that you think you should have had the same chance to get this deal as someone that arrived and was waiting outside at say, Midnight?
It sucks that you missed out on the deal, but the early bird always gets the worm on Black Friday.

Yea seriously..since that poor Walmart employee in New York City was killed by a stampede on Black Friday 2008, I am pretty sure Walmart is covering their bottoms to make sure something like this never happens again.

I'm by no means a WalMart supporter. I can't STAND them, however I'm not sure how WalMart could have handled this situation better and still in a safe manner.
My sister-in-law went to WalMart quite early as well, and said that people just showed up earlier and put the sale items in their carts and waited to check-out until the actual SALE prices went into effect.
They could have either:
A.) Locked people out until the sale time, creating an unsafe stampede when the doors are opened.
B.) Taken ALL sale merchandise off the shelves until sale time.
The first one is unsafe (I'd much rather have little Timmy go without his videogame for Christmas than even ONE person get hurt/killed), and the second one is impossible.

You know what? Im betting the people that say a $198 laptop is crap are the the same people that show up 5 minutes before a store opens and are bitter they didn't get that laptop.

"I arrived at the store at 4:15 a.m."
The people inside the store arrived much earlier. Like midnight. What does it matter if the store opened early? It still was first come, first served, which is the most fair way to handle these things.

This was intentional. Last year, there were people trampled at Wal-Mart. So, this year, they made the decision to give out tickets to the first people in line (who had arrived, most likely, hours before you). It may seem unfair, but it's a good way to keep people from dying as they rush into the store when it opens.

You should probably feel lucky. Emachines are the absolute worst PCs/Laptops you can buy. You would be better spending a bit more on a better model.

I have worked at several different retail stores over the years. On Black Friday it is a common procedure to hand out tickets for hot items to the first x amount of people waiting in line. If there are 100 people in line and you have 50 tickets for a special laptop, then the first 50 people in line that want one will get a ticket. That's how these things work. Showing up at a store only 45 minutes before it opens on Black Friday is too late if you want any of the special early bird deals. Many people line up hours ahead of time for these deals. On the news, they showed people who lined up 6 or more hours before the stores opened
Why would you want a laptop that is only $198 anyway. It is probably not a good quality laptop and would not last very long.
