We purchased "Peidi - Rawhide Munchie Holiday Canes for your Dog" treats as a Christmas gift for our 3 year old Shih-poo. The box states to feed to your dog as a treat daily. Our dog had 4 of these treats over 7 days. As a result she needed surgery on December 31st, 2012 to remove the Rawhide from her stomach as it does not break down. The only option was surgery or to have our dog put down. This $10.00 box of treats came at a cost of $2349.37 for medical expenses due to YOUR treats. There are no warnings on the box stating that this could be dangerous to your dog.

Place warning signs to customers of the hazards of these treats for animals. Remove dangerous products from shelves. Compensate for medical bills.

So sorry about your dog, I hope he/she is better. Please don't feed
your doggie rawhide or use Hartz flea products, very dangerous IMO.

Warning signs? Remove dangerous products?

I guess now's the time to learn about dogs and treats - it's NOT a
one-treat-fits all market.

Just because YOUR dog swallowed the product doesn't mean it's bad for
all dogs. It just means your dog probably shouldn't have rawhide.

For example my dog LOVES bones. Other dogs can't have them because
they have issues with bones, but mine doesn't.

Mine also doesn't have issues with rawhide - the shelter use to give
it to her all the time - but... well frankly I'm not keen on the idea
of my dog chewing on leather.

I know you're angry about the product but... I'd recommend keeping an
eye on her when she has her treats. sure our dog gets bones but we
keep an eye on her in case she starts having an issue.

it's part of what we consider to be "responsible" when it comes to the
dog

In addition to what the others have said, your issue isn't with
Wal-Mart, but the company that makes the treats.

that the problem was specifically the treats.

A shih poo isn't a very big dog and I don't know how big the treats
are individually, but 4 in a week seems like a lot to me.

I had a Beagle that chewed EVERYTHING and still only gave her one per
week because she'd eat the whole dran thing! Not even just gnaw on
it.

You'll need medical proof and statements from your doctor if you want
compensation for the bills. Sorry this happened.

I NEVER give our dog rawhide. My vet saws its one of the worst treats
for dogs. Do a quick search on the net and see.

Rawhide takes a LONG time to digest, and depending on the size of the
dog and the size of the treat 4 of them over 7 days was obviously way
to much for your dog.
