Wood Swing Set

On 5/12/2009 I purchased a wood swing set for $634.94. The store experience was that good on how long I had to wait and they tried to give me 2 boes instead of 3 even though it said 2 of 3. When I asked the guys he said well I think that is right. I showed them some on the floor that had all the boxes together but they insisted on getting it from the back. Once I got loaded it took forever to finally get the unit together to realize how cheap the swing set was made. We spend a lot of money and 20-30 plus hours putting it together to find out it was poorly made by thin wood that is already cracking and a thin base that we feel is not even that safe. We are very upset and not even sure how you would even take something like this back and get a much better set that will last a long time. This is for my daughter and daughter to be born in about 1 month. This was supposed to be a unit that would last a long time and they could both have a lot of fun.

I would like my money back so I can upgrade to a much better set that will last and be safer. Please anything you can do to help I would really appreciate it! Thanks and I look forward to your response. Best Regards, Duke Perry

I did get a response from Walmart and they were very responsive.
Within on day I got a call from the local Walmart manager and said
that I could return and he would give my full money back. Thanks
Walmart!

I read some reviews at WalMart.com for this class of swing set.
Basically people say it *looks* like sets that cost twice as much, but
is made of lighter weight wood (aka you get what you pay for).

The wood is cedar, and for the set I saw the reviews said the manual
states the wood has been stained, but not sealed.

Cedar has good qualities (weather resistant) and poor qualities (not a
strong wood). Therefore, if the wood is smaller in dimension, the
strength simply won't be there. All cedar cuts are not alike. Lower
quality wood will contain more heartwood and check (split) more
readily. Many reviewers suggest both predrilling holes and sealing
the wood to prevent splitting.

My guess is that if you didn't seal the wood, overtightened fasteners
and didn't predrill holes, you will end up with a pile of scrap wood
by the time your daughter is 4 or 5.

This is most likely not returnable after it is assembled (and taken
apart). Your complaint is that the swing set is poorly made. Some of
these all-in-one swing sets are of chinzy quality, and you bought this
one at Wal-Mart. Since a lot of stuff at Wal-Mart is of substandard
quality, it isn't surprising that you got a piece of junk.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but you are probably stuck.
