Closed/Collection Account PAID Letter

Posted Sat June 13, 2009 1:15 am, by Felipe O. written to Washington Mutual

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

I had a checking account with WAMU a few years back that was recently closed. It was closed with a balance. That balance was sent to a Collection Agency.

I recently paid off that balance with the collection agency that bought the account from WAMU.

My problem is that WAMU reported me to Chexsystems. I honestly expected the collection agency to notify WAMU that the account was settled and paid. Therefor WAMU would in return notify Chexsystems and remove the mark.

WAMU refuses to do so.

I had a lengthy conversation this afternoon with a WAMU CSR. The CSR was unwilling to help and or assist me in any way. I literally felt like I was speaking to a robot.

She kept repeating that "we do not own this account" "we will not send you a paid in full letter" "we will not send you a letter stating we do not own this account".

In other words they are screwing me.

Chexsystems and another bank will not work with me until I provide a letter from WAMU stating that the account was paid. Chexsystems and the other bank will not accept the paid in full letter from the collection agency. They require a letter from WAMU that WAMU refuses to write.

I'm all out of options.

1, Write me a simple letter stating the account has been paid. THAT IS ALL I NEED.

That may be the case until 7 years passes.

From what I found, you should have gotten WaMu to sign off on the deal
*before* you paid the collection agency. Also, the collection agency
has no obligation to contact credit agencies even if you pay.

If you paid the collection agency less than you originally owed, WaMu
can still pursue you for the remainder. This may be why they refuse
to deal with you. You are screwed, but if you think back to how this
all started, it may be that it isn't WaMu that was the cause.
