Online Mortgage Payment Fee

Posted Thu July 26, 2007 8:20 pm, by Sterling C. written to Wells Fargo

I have been a Wells Fargo home mortgage customer since 2003 and have refinanced with Wells Fargo two times. Just recently the online payment options were changed so that it now costs me $10 to pay my mortgage electronically from my checking account with Wachovia. I think that it is outgrageous to charge a $10 fee for something most institutions are accepting for free.

I believe that Wells Fargo should waive this outrageous fee.

I also find it completely ridiculous that they are charging a fee for
online payment. Why would a system that requires less labor on their
part (less people to process transactions) need to charge you $10.
They are saving money on labor costs, and screwing the customer in the
end. How does that make sense?

They have recently done an overhaul on their online bill pay. I
have/had the same issue. Tho I'm not too thrilled that my only
option(w/o an extra fee) is signing up for automatic direct debit from
my bank account on the 31st...I have gone that route. I don't want to
have to pay exrta $$ for them to do something for me, so from now on I
just need to make sure that on the 31st...the $ needed to cover the
mortgage is in the bank, plain and simple.

It sucks...but it is, what it is

I agree -- I'm astounded by any major debtor (credit card, utility,
mortgagor) who charges $10 (or more) to pay electronically.

However, you could set up automatic payments -- I've found that those
usually are free (they like the idea that their money is going to come
automatically every month, and your mortgage DEFINITELY should be the
first debt you pay).

Good luck!
