But they make a mess.
I just wanted you to know what a great idea I think the vanilla frosty floats are. I was suprised to see it when I went through the drive through a few nights ago and since I LOVE rootbeer floats I had to order one. Its really good! What a great idea. I also like the idea that you give the option of either Coke or rootbeer.
I only have one suggestion. I dont know what the best way to make a Frosty float is but you might want to make sure there is one and that the employees know how to do it. The first one I got was great. No problems. The second one I got looked strange. The employee handing it to me looked like something strange was going on. By the time I got it into my car and set it in the cup holder it started pouring out the top and all over my car! I got the straw out to try and drink some of it down to stop the mess but it only made it worse! By the time it was done my car was soaked and half my float was gone. Very dissapointing. Like I said, I am not sure how to do it but I am thinking that putting the Frosty in first and then the drink is probably the way to go.
However, its a wonderful idea and I am glad someone thought about it. I was so happy when you came out with a vanilla frosty and I didnt think it could get better than that. Thanks for proving me wrong!
Mary Jo

Is this a regional thing? I have a Wendy's next door to my work and they don't have these. I would love to try it!

A float made of vanilla ice cream and orange soda pop! Was driving back from a conference with some buddies a couple of years ago. The night before was the wrap-up and, naturally, a bit of imbibing took place. Came through a small town hoping to get a cup of coffee. Only thing open was A&W--no coffee available! They had a choice of two floats--root beer and orange. Don't care for root beer. What the heck! Take a chance. Had the orange float and life was very bearable after that. Honest.

Mmmm...I think I'll stop into Wendy's today and get one.
Super Bowl Sunday I made grape soda floats for the kids. They are our favorite, we call them "Purple cows"

Back in high school, I worked at a DQ. I was told, when making floats, was to tilt the cup at about a 45 degree angle so that the ice cream would go into the "corner" of the cup. That created a "pocket" for the soda.
I like floats made with Sprite or strawberry soda. I used to make them for myself all the time, but I think that someone would look at me funny if I ordered on now.

Actually, putting the frosty in first is a bad idea (in my experience with floats in general). Ya need to put some soda of choice in, then frosty, then more soda... The ice cream is what causes the fizz. I dont think drive-thru's should offer floats at all b/c they are run based on time, and it takes time to make a float with minimal mess :(
I am glad you like theirs though!

What an excellent idea! I can't wait for them to get to my area! Brings back some good memories, nothing better than a rootbeer float! (If they don't "float" too much!)

Darn, I wish there was a Wendy's near me. The closest is like 50 miles away (I live in a small town). I LOVE vanilla flavor. More so even than chocolate flavor. I only like chocolate REALLY dark, and you don't get that in a shake. The Dairy Queen person (we have DQ, but no Wendy's?!?!?)always looks at me funny when I order a vanilla malt. As soon as Wendy's gets that one, then I'll drive the 50 miles!! Either way, great letter! Sounds yummy!

If it's a company authorized product then they definitely have a procedure for how to make it.
Because of soda (and especially root beer) natural tendency to foam when hitting cold ice cream, the procedure is like to do it in layers such as:
frosty/soda/frosty/soda
and the person making it should be watching for foam activity and adjusting the time frame accordingly. it sounds like all they did with your bad frosty float was dump soda and frosty together in a cup, slap a lid on it and send it out the window.

Is that you, Mary Jo, or the other Mary Jo B. who uses PFB?
Vanilla Frosty Floats! We were just in Wendy's, and I didn't see that on the menu. It sounds delicious for something that's not chocolate... hahaha!
It does sound like the second one was made incorrectly. Who would think that there's a scientific method to making a frosty float?... haha!
If enough people bring it to their attention, I'm sure they'll get it right soon.
