Whirlpool water heaters

Write a Letter to this Company

It's really frustrating when you spend hard-earned money on a product, and then this happens. I'm referring to the durability with Whirlpool and I'm hoping you can do something about it. Frankly, I'm furious over this matter.

For the record, I own a FG1J5040T3NV from your company.

My husband & I purchased a water heater in March, 2002. Since then, we have had to replace 2 thermocouples & 2 gas valves. We also were asked to have a professional come to our home to verify what was wrong with the heater so that Whirlpool would send us the parts we needed. We also had to replace the existing doors on the closet the heater is in, since one of the customer service people we spoke with said we didn't have enough fresh air getting to the unit, causing the thermocouple to burn out. Since replacing the last thermocouple, gas valve, & doors (which have been open the entire time-hopefully that was enough fresh air for the unit), we still have to restart the pilot light every 3-4 days. Since purchasing this unit, we have put approximately $500 into a brand new unit with, what we thought was, a reliable name brand.

Here's what I'd like to see happen: Per our request during my husband's last conversation with your customer service department, we want the unit replaced with a non-Whirlpool unit of a comprable size. Based on our experience with Whirlpool, we would never recommend buying anything manufactured by Whirlpool to any of our family or friends. I really hope you can solve this, because it will determine whether I buy anything else from you in the future. You can be sure I won't give my friends a good review of your products.

Please respond to this complaint as quickly as possible.

I have always thought Whirlpool was a trusted brand. But with the
water heater we puchased 2 yrs ago we have had a repair man out
yesterday and we spent $150. on it and it is not working again this
morning. After reading other reports on your product. we see we are
not the only ones having this problem. Repair man say's it is over
heating and we are not going ot spend anymore money on it. One letter
I read said they had to deal with this problem again and again. So
What are you going to do about this matter. I would like some
compensation with this problelm.
I have company and a very bad ice storm so can't deal with this today.

So please reply.

I have / HAD the Whirlpool 50 Gal FL waterheater. Spent 3 days with no
hot water, trying to fix the problem. Lowes gave me the replacement
part for free, but this did not solve the problem. I also bought a new
control, did not solve the problem. New burner unit and a new control
and the problem persists. Finally I said "Screw it" and went a bought
a new GE water heater. Do you think there is a change I will get my
money back for Lowes or WP, probably a chnage in Hell. Also, how much
time would it cost me to try.
I will never, never buy any whirlpool products again, because of this
1 problematic purchase.

I hate my whirlpool water heater too...it is a 50 gallon model with a
left hand threading thermocouple. I am sick and tired of fixing this
waterheater. I purchased it at Lowe's building supply. This
waterheater is exclusively sold there. I have trouble getting the
parts, and I have to install them myself. There is something
defective with this model because this should not be happening.

My email address is wisconsinstormwatch@yahoo.com

Whirlpool, your honoring the warranty on my waterheater sucks...and
the funny thing about it is that my wife and I have almost exclusively
purchased whirlpool products over the last 17 years. This one
product is really make me think things over. I wish you would come
here and give me a product that works better. Well, whirlpool if you
are listening, I left my email here. It is September 2007, and we
won't wait much longer.

I absolutely AGREE with you! My wife and I purchased a Whirlpool
Flame-lock waterheater in October 2004. Just yesterday (March 06) we
had no hot water. My wife called whirlpool, and the tech we spoke
with immediatly referenced that it sounds like a bad thermocouple
and/or gas valve. Their solution to this problem is to have people
who aren't plumbers go in and replace it. They will pay for the part
only. Whoop de friggan DOO! If you have to call a service tech to
come in, the cost is yours to bear. This is a load of crap. My wife
and I purchased a new thermocouple and installed it, and we still have
cold water, so now we have to replace the gas valve. This is much
more involved as you need to disconnect the gas, drain the tank, then
take the gas valve off and install the new one, and hook it all back
up and hope that solves it. If not... I bet they have another problem
that we will have to replace. As much as I always wanted to be a
plumber, this isn't right. If you google whirlpool waterheaters, you
get several sites right away that are full of people with similiar
problems. They all read about the same story. "I purchased a
Whirlpool waterheater thinking I was buying a quality product and
within 8 months to 2 years, it stopped working". Whirlpool knows it
is a bad product, why do you think they know what the problem is right
off and are willing to pay the cost of the part? They need to make
this right with people. A recall of this model needs to occur and be
replaced with a WORKING model at NO COST to the consumer because we
already paid for it!!!! Who ever heard of a waterheater working for
only a year? The last one we had worked with only 6 maintenance calls
for 22 YEARS. I think this should at least function for about 10
years. (As you can see, I am quite frustrated with the whole thing)
No sane person would ever buy this product if they knew this happens
regularly. I will probably end up junking this and purchasing a whole
new water heater. Thanks a bunch Whirlpool!!
