Cahrged for room and shuld not have been

Posted Thu August 9, 2012 8:34 pm, by sharon b. written to wingate by wyndam

I made a reservation at this hotel for 06/29/12. We arrived at the hotel to find they had no power due to a storm, people were haning out in the dark outside and in the lobby because it was so hot out and thier rooms were to hot to stay in. I wnet to the desk clerk and said I have a reservation for tonight. He was using a small flashlight because of no power, I gave him my reservation number and name. He said he could not find any reservation for me and could not get into the computer to look it up because of now power. He said I the Residence Inn down the road has power I suggest you try there. I said I want to make sure I am not going to be chargd on my charge cardfor tonight. He said no you will not be charged I have no way to look up your reservation # and we have no power. I got his name and he called the Residence Inn from his cell phone and confirmed they had rooms and told us how to get there. Now I get my charge card bill and am charged for the room. I explained to them what happened and all I got told was lies. They said they had a backup computer, which they did not when we were there, the attendant was using a flashlight. I told them I had the attendants name to prove we were there and he is the one who told us to go to another hotel and we would not be charged. On my charge card bill I noticed it says for reservation on July 1st. I made a reservation for 6/30. The manager was very rude and abrupt. I should not have benn charged $88.89 for this room. I was lied to by the hotel. If I was going to be charged for the room we would not have left. I have nothing good to say about Wingate to anyone. We stay in may hotels and this was our first experience with them and our last.

I should get my $88.89 back, because we did arrive on the date I booked 6/29 not 7/01 and the attendent sent us to another hotel and told us we would not be charged

Be sure to include a copy of the receipt from Residence Inn. That will
show the date you were in town and also confirm that you were there
when the power was out.

sharon b.,

Contact your credit card company to dispoute this charge. Relate to
them what happened and gain direction from them how you can assure
that a copy of this letter and your hotel reservation confirmation
letter become part of your file. They will in turn advise the hotel
that you are disputing the charge to which they have to reply with a
certain period of time. If memory serves me it is 30 days.

Good luck.
